Erm, yes, it’s taken me a full month to write again. It’s just like every diary I kept growing up. Big spurts of writing followed by massive gaps of silence.
It turns out it was a bit premature for me to write about my top ten Olympic moments, although I still wouldn’t change any of them. I just have to add a few more.
1) Sledge Hockey. We saw Norway vs. USA. These guys are awesome. What amazing athletes. And what a rough sport.
2) Ziplining Across Robson Square. We waited until the zipline re-opened for the Paralympics as the lines were substantially shorter. I and two girlfriends waited in line for two hours on a Wednesday morning. I’ll be honest – I was completely relaxed. Until we had to climb that tower. For the last five or so flights of stairs, my legs turned to jelly. By the time we reached the platform at the top, I thought, “I’d really like to turn back, but my pride won’t let me.” I was strapped in … then the guy told me to walk down four metal stairs to nowhere – and jump.
But once I was airborne – the fear disappeared. It was exhilarating! I was so proud of myself and my pals – pushing ourselves to do something new.
3) Aeriosa – In Situ. This was the last Cultural Olympiad event we saw, and it was amazing. I thought ziplining was scary – these women (and one young man) danced – secured by climbing ropes – from the sides of our downtown Public Library. It has to be seen to be believed – it was stunningly beautiful, so graceful, like they were swimming underwater, and also awe-inspiring. And just to add the cherry to the sundae: It was free!
