Last Thursday, April 30th, “We Are All Made of Molecules” officially launched in the UK. It’s published there by Andersen Press. As you may know from previous posts, I met the team there in March and fell instantly in love. They are incredible.
BUT – now that the book is officially launched, it means I can now officially blurt out some exciting news. Waterstones, as you may know, is a bookstore chain in the UK. I’ve visited a few of them, and they are quite remarkable (especially their flagship shop on Piccadilly. Holy amazeballs, what I wouldn’t give to win a shopping spree there. I picture myself being set loose with a shopping cart, which I would fill to the brim with treasures in no time). The shops I saw had gorgeous windows, displays of staff picks, and also displays of truly elegant, gorgeous small press books that you’d be hard-pressed to find over here. They appear to be not only surviving, but thriving.
And, miracle of miracles, Waterstones picked my book – yes, my book – as their May “Waterstones Loves” title. This means that most of their stores will have a dedicated in-store display of “We Are All Made of Molecules” throughout this month.
I know. Pinch me, hard. But it’s true. Because I’m collecting photographic evidence. Here are some of the shots that have come in via Twitter.
I’ve even received a couple of shots of window displays.
I mean, look at that! These took a lot of creative energy. I am hugely impressed. I only wish I was over there, so I could just tour around and giggle maniacally outside some of these stores. It would probably get me arrested. But I’m deeply grateful to Waterstones and especially to those employees who put such effort into such beautiful displays. I’m tickled beyond belief.
Also, I take none of this for granted. This is very likely a once in a lifetime experience. For whatever reason, my book got sprinkled by a big of magic UK fairy dust.
So, I will enjoy the moment. And I will also keep working on my big, massive, epic rewrite of the NEXT book!
