So my sister in law (one of my SEVEN followers – that’s right – one more this week!) told me that a good blogger posts at least three times a week. I think I’ll be lucky if I manage twice a week. But I really will try. I still don’t have Edmonton photos, but here is a link to a short interview I did for CBC online. But this is what I really want to write about. Last night I finished a novel by a writer I know, Ian Weir. Yes, he’s my friend, so you might think this recommendation is suspect. But let me tell you – I just wouldn’t write about it if I didn’t like it! This is an adult novel, called “Daniel O’Thunder.” It’s Ian’s first novel (he also has a great career as a playwright and TV writer. Among his many projects he created the teen soap “Edgemont”).
Anyway, this novel was a rip-roaring good read. Set in the 1800’s in England, it’s about a pugilist (a boxer) named Daniel who decides to – well, take on the Devil. To be honest, I was a bit dubious when I picked it up, pugilism not being high on my list of interests … and then, within pages, I was hooked. This is a beautifully written, hilarious, touching, suspenseful page-turner. And now seven more people will know about it! Pass it on! Buy Canadian and all that!
