“Word Nerd” won two awards this week. On Monday I found out it had won the Rocky Mountain Book Award.Then on Friday (today) I found out it was the winner of the Manitoba Young Readers Choice Award!
I’m feeling rather overwhelmed, and very touched, because the book was chosen by the young readers themselves, and that makes it extra-special. Thanks so much to the kids in Alberta and Manitoba who took part in reading all those wonderful books. It’s still sinking in.
On A Separate Note …
I said I’d write more about last weekend’s Scrabble tournament. It was really fun. The organizers managed to raise over $1000 for Frontier College and their amazing literacy programs. I did very poorly in my two Scrabble games, but my reading went well. I read the chapter where Ambrose and Cosmo visit the Scrabble Club for the first time, and as I was reading to die-hard Scrabble fans, the humor went over very well. It was a really fun afternoon.
